Welcome to Joe Sixpack Answers!

This is the place to learn everything you ever wanted to know about the Catholic faith but were afraid to ask… or didn’t know to ask… or didn’t care to ask… whatever. Since you’re here, I assume you’ve read the What We Believe…Why We Believe It series in your parish bulletin. That means you’re here because the series has provoked some questions in your mind…and I’m here to help with that.

Before I go on, please take a moment to sign-up for short email presentations of things you probably don't know about the Catholic faith through the form on the right. I'll also notify you when I add things to the Catholic FAQ page or add new features to this site. And you can be certain your privacy is important to me—
I'll never share your email with anyone!

Let me say that I’m very happy you’re here. Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman, arguably the greatest Catholic apologist of the 19th century, once said that the greatest tragedy in the Church is the ignorance of the Catholic laity. He was right, too, and what he said 150 years ago is more
Blessed Cardinal Newman
applicable today than it was then. So I’m happy you’re here because you want to increase your knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith. That’s a good thing on several levels.

  • It’s good that you want to learn and understand more about the faith because it simply makes no sense to go to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and be involved in your parish when you realize you don’t know as much as you should about what the Church teaches.

  • It’s good that you want to learn and understand more about your faith because it means you’re concerned about the afterlife.

  • It’s good that you want to learn and understand more about your faith because you’re now fulfilling the Church’s precept that you continue your post Confirmation obligation to continue to learn about your faith for the rest of your life.

Some of you may be miffed or even angry. You may be blaming your priest or the Catholic classes or the school you went to when you were a kid for your lack knowledge of the Catholic faith. Well, I can’t speak for anyone who had the responsibility to help form your knowledge of Catholicism back then, but I can tell you that
your pastor is deeply concerned that you better learn and understand the faith now. If he weren’t, you wouldn’t be reading my articles each week and you wouldn’t be here right now. That being said, I’d very strongly suggest that you tell your parish priest how thankful you are that he began carrying What We Believe…Why We Believe It in your parish.

What to do on this website.

You’ll notice on the navigation bar that I have a page all about the Sixpacks—my niece Jane and me. I’ll tell you everything I can about myself. Why you’d really want to know anything about me is beyond my ability to comprehend, but on the curiosity level regarding my name I get it—you’re curious about someone called Joe & Jane Sixpack. Oh, and ladies, don't forget to check out Jane's blog.

You’ll also see a page labeled Catholic FAQs. Just like every other site, this is for
Major Elevation
frequently asked questions. The difference is, all of these are common questions people ask about the faith—just browse the categories to the right of that page to find what you want. As time goes by, I’ll be adding more and more of them on this page in the form of a blog. For that reason, you’ll probably want to sign up on the form on the right to get notifications when I add new questions and answers. I’ll also be announcing new resources on this site as they’re developed, as well as outside sources from time to time. And you can help Ol’ Joe Sixpack out by taking the occasional survey I’ll be sending out to find out ways I can improve the services I’ll be providing for you. My chief interest is helping you to fall head over heels in love with Jesus Christ and His holy Church. On my word as a Catholic, I promise you I won’t share your contact information with anyone.

There is also a page that says Ask Joe. This is just a contact form, but I use it for those of you who have questions that aren’t on the Catholic FAQ page. All the information given by you on this page is strictly confidential. You’ll notice that I ask for your parish name and the city and state where it’s located. The reason I ask for this information is, it helps me to track where
What We Believe... Why We Believe It is having an impact. That’s really important because I occasionally interview priests to see just what they’re doing in their parishes for their flock. You see, I also develop strategies for parish priests to grow their parishes by bringing back lapsed Catholics and reaching out to non-Catholics for evangelization. After all, Jesus told us to spread the faith to the ends of the earth. So this information helps me to be able to help priests do that very thing. (BTW, if you think your parish could benefit from a strategy I can develop for it, don’t hesitate to tell your pastor and ask him to contact me. I’ve got a separate website just for them: www.GrowMyParish.com. and CatholicDirectMarketing.com)

Regarding your questions… it’s just me and two other folks (another Marian Catechist) doing all this neat stuff, and it keeps us very busy. We don’t have a staff, and we don’t outsource anything. If you have a question we sense is really important to you at the time, we’ll do our best to get you an answer within twenty-four hours. Again, whatever you ask, say or otherwise tell us is strictly between us. However, I’ll be using heavily edited and generic versions of some of your questions for the occasional
What We Believe… Why We Believe It installment that is only a Q&A issue, or for the Catholic FAQ page. Oh, and you’ll also see occasional pages from What We Believe…Why We Believe It that is Catholic trivia—just for fun.
